New Paper Paintings by Abi Spring

We love the simple beauty of these paper paintings by Abi Spring. The backbone of her work is repetitive and meditative mark making, process and the creation of objects that are the record of process. Inspired by looking at nature and by trying to interact with materials, Spring balances her influence with the natural tendencies of the physical materials. She states: “My goal is to be like water flowing through sand, where rocks or detritus determine the course and result in a beautiful interaction.”
Influenced as much by reductive painters, like Robert Ryman, Agnes Martin, and Ad Reinhardt, as by the music of Ravi Shankar, Spring aims to create work that embodies the meditative state that is required to make her work.
